Sophie's Report on The Mexican Revolution

The Mexican Revolution

Hello, friends and family! Today my mom and I went and saw the traditional Mexican parade, celebrating the Mexican Revolution!

Many dancers in the parade were wearing traditional outfits, as you see here...

In 1910 the revolution first started, when many people rose against the president, Porfirio Diaz. Now, usually, a Mexican president can only be president for 4 years, but Diaz had been president for 30! See, he would sneak in and tweak the votes so everyone would be voting for him. Also, if someone tried to run against him he’d send his thugs to convince him otherwise.

Now, one of the rebels was named Pancho Villa, he rose with about 300 other men and women. Diaz realized he was not going to be able to stay strong much longer, for he has going on 80, so he singed over his power, and died in Paris 4 years later. Viva Mexico!

After that, Madero, a man who had tried to overthrow Diaz years before, retuned. He was immediately made president. But he found himself in a sticky situation; all the Mexicans wanted different things for Mexico. Madero spent 2 years trying to meet all their needs and wants, but failed. A war broke out again, but this time against Madero. After 10 days of this, it was finally resolved and a new man was put in charge, Huerta. But Huerta didn’t stay for long, there were many years of difficulty for Mexico after that. And that is the Mexican Revolution!
